In a significant step towards bolstering Ukraine's maritime security, the Swedish Coast Guard is collaborating with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine to enhance civil maritime operations. Currently, efforts to identify and prepare equipment for this partnership are underway. As part of this initiative, two decommissioned environmental protection vessels, 'KBV 047' and 'KBV 048', along with additional vehicles, will be donated to Ukraine. This announcement follows the earlier donation of jet skis by the Coast Guard in 2024. Looking ahead, there are indications that further equipment donations may be made. Moreover, the Swedish government has outlined plans to deepen cooperation with Ukraine in civil protection and national resilience. A supplementary budget amendment approved on January 30, 2025, has allocated an increase of 24 million SEK to the Coast Guard for 2025, ensuring the necessary funding to support these efforts.

On September 14, 2015, the Swedish patrol boat 'KBV 047' departed from the port of Slite, heading towards the wreck site of the former survey vessel 'Altair', measuring 148 BRZ (IMO Number: 7338339), located off Faludden. Adverse weather conditions complicated the planned diving inspection aimed at assessing the potential release of approximately 1,200 liters of diesel fuel from the vessel. In response to the situation, a surveillance aircraft and satellite technology monitored the area to check for any signs of an oil spill. Precautionary measures included deploying a containment boom around the masts that were still visible above the water's surface. Following its mission, 'KBV 047' returned to Ronehamn for re-equipping, while no official updates were provided regarding the salvage operations for the wreck, which is sitting in a depth of eight meters.
