The ship, which had arrived from Ceuta on August 23, struck an accumulation of sand that had amassed on the estuary's bottom. Fortunately, at 9:30 p.m. the same day, the 'Kelly C' was successfully freed from the shoal with the assistance of the tugboat 'Gondán'. The vessel was carrying a cargo of 2000 tons of pulp paper at the time. This incident impacted traffic in the approach to Lugo during the salvage operation.
