Vietnamese Cargo Ship Royal Prime Faces Distress in the South China Sea

The Royal Prime, a Vietnamese general cargo vessel, encountered a severe incident in the South China Sea on December 29, 2012, when it began to sink after striking reefs. The distress signal was detected around 10:00 UTC, specifically at the coordinates 08°06'N 114°35'E. In response to the emergency, all 18 crew members evacuated the vessel and boarded lifeboats. The last recorded AIS signal was received at 20:41 UTC the same day, with the vessel's position noted at 08°06'N 114°30'E.
