Container Ship Collision Near Gibraltar: ANL Wyong and King Arthur Incident
On August 4, 2018, a maritime incident unfolded approximately four miles southeast of Gibraltar between the container vessel 'ANL Wyong' and the bulk carrier 'King Arthur.' At the time, the 'ANL Wyong,' operating on the EURAF5 Loop route connecting Western Europe with Western Africa, was on its way to Algeciras after departing from Douala. Meanwhile, the 'King Arthur' was navigating westward through Gibraltar waters, headed from Istanbul to Rotterdam. Both vessels sustained damage from the collision. Following the incident, the 'ANL Wyong' docked at the Cernaval Group Shipyard in Campamento Port at 4:20 p.m. on August 5. The 'King Arthur' was observed moored near Algeciras at coordinates 36° 6.14' N, 005° 25.11' W before continuing its journey, with an estimated arrival date of August 13.
Investigation Launched After LPG Tanker Allegedly Disrupts Internet Connectivity in Channel Islands
On November 28, 2016, the LPG tanker 'King Arthur' became the center of attention after it was suspected of severing three primary internet cables that connect the Channel Islands to the mainland. The incident, believed to have occurred when the vessel inadvertently dragged its anchor across the seabed in the English Channel, prompted immediate actions for cable repairs. The first of the damaged cables was projected to undergo a week's worth of repair, with internet users bracing for slower broadband speeds during peak usage periods. Meanwhile, a second vessel was en route from France to address the issues with the second internet cable, while plans were being made to repair the third cable subsequently. Authorities from Jersey's Coastguard initiated an investigation to determine if the 'King Arthur' anchored in a prohibited zone. In tandem, the tanker’s owners were undertaking their own inquiries to ascertain if their vessel was indeed responsible for the disruptions. By November 30, the 'King Arthur' was docked in Terneuzen and was scheduled to depart for Augusta on December 1.
