Allegations of Assault: Passengers Claim Security Guards on King Seaways Attacked Them
Three passengers aboard the 'King Seaways', Grant Fagan (31), Ross Millar (32), and Paul Thomson (29), have brought forth serious allegations against security personnel on the DFDS ferry. The incident occurred during their overnight journey from Amsterdam to Newcastle, following their work assignments in Germany. The Danish ferry operator, DFDS, is fully cooperating with authorities as investigators look into the reported assault of the three men on board. Legal proceedings are in motion as the situation unfolds.
DFDS Ferry Service Between Newcastle and Amsterdam Suspended Until June
The DFDS ferry route connecting Newcastle and Amsterdam will remain inactive until at least early June, as the suspension continues due to the ongoing effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Initially halted to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the suspension now extends through June 3 at the earliest. The 'King Seaways', the ship operating this route, has been docked in Ijmuiden since March 23, complying with government measures aimed at public health safety.
DFDS Expands Fleet through Ferry Deal with Moby
In a strategic move to bolster its operations, Danish ferry and logistics powerhouse DFDS has formalized an agreement with Italian maritime player Moby. The deal involves DFDS acquiring two well-established freight and passenger ferries, known as ro-pax vessels, namely the Moby Wonder, launched in 2001, and the Moby Aki, introduced in 2005. This acquisition aims to enhance capacity along the Amsterdam-Newcastle route. In exchange, Moby will take possession of the DFDS-operated passenger ferries, King Seaways and Princess Seaways, which date back to 1987 and 1986, respectively. This significant fleet swap is poised for completion in the latter half of October 2019. Following the transfer, DFDS will bareboat-charter King Seaways and Princess Seaways from Moby until early 2020, specifically January and February, as they seamlessly transition into Moby's operational framework.
