On July 1, 2013, Rickmers-Linie celebrated the renaming of its 19,100 dwt vessel, Pacific Winter, to Rickmers Chennai during a festive ceremony held in Hamburg. This leading company, known for its expertise in the global transportation of breakbulk, heavylift, and project cargo, was honored to have Christine Winter, daughter of the ship's owner, serve as the vessel's sponsor during this significant event. The newly christened Rickmers Chennai's compact size enhances its operational flexibility, enabling it to navigate ports with restricted turning circles, drafts, and berth lengths, where larger 30,000 dwt ships face challenges. This ship is part of an ensemble that includes the sister vessel Baltic Winter, which is now operating as Rickmers Dubai, and is on charter from Reederei Heino Winter. The ongoing partnership also encompasses the smaller Rickmers Chittagong and Rickmers Mumbai, catering to the flexibility demands of the Mideast/India-European service. The event attracted approximately 200 attendees, including employees from Reederei Heino Winter and Rickmers-Linie. It was also a memorable occasion for Deputy Port Captain Andreas Brummermann, who was presented with the Admiralty Coat of Arms—an esteemed tradition acknowledging ships visiting the Port of Hamburg for their inaugural arrival.
