In the early hours of February 10, 2025, at 1:45 a.m., the fishing vessel 'Koralhav' encountered an accident when it ran aground on Litlbjørnøya, situated just south of Rangsundøya in Rødøy municipality, Nordland. The vessel, carrying a crew of 15, was navigating from Ålesund to engage in haddock and cod fishing when the incident occurred at coordinates 66° 33' N 012° 59' E. The lifeboat 'Leif Erik Simonsen' was promptly dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, responders found the 'Koralhav' resting on its starboard side, exhibiting a notable list. Fortunately, there was no leak reported, and the risk of an oil spill was eliminated since the ship became lodged bow-first. As the weather remained calm, the lifeboat safely returned, confirming no immediate danger to the crew. At the time of grounding, the tide was in decline, and the vessel awaited assistance from the tug 'Boa Brage' (IMO: 9551894), which had been engaged by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. The tug successfully refloated the 'Koralhav' with the rising tide at 10 a.m. the same day. Following the salvage operation, the fishing vessel was escorted to Sandnessjøen for inspections and departed from the port on February 11, continuing its operations without further delay.
