Hydraulic Issues Ground Ferry 'Kragerø' Leading to Service Adjustments
On August 6, 2017, the ferry 'Kragerø' faced unexpected technical difficulties that necessitated an immediate halt to its operations in Kragerø for urgent repairs. In response to the situation, the ferry operator deployed the reserve vessel 'Naus' to step in for 'Kragerø'. However, 'Naus' has a smaller capacity, which meant that several vehicles had to be left behind during the ferry's departure from Jomfruland at 10:50 a.m. These vehicles were only collected hours later. A technician was dispatched to diagnose the malfunction on 'Kragerø', revealing that a damaged hydraulic pump would require a considerable repair effort. As a result, it's anticipated that 'Kragerø' will not resume service until at least the end of the following week. Meanwhile, the ferry services continued with 'Naus' and 'Jesper' ensuring transportation for passengers and vehicles on the Kragerø route.
Vessel Incident in Skåtøy Sound: The Grounding of 'Kragerø'
On the morning of August 22, 2016, a maritime incident occurred when the 'Kragerø', carrying three school classes, ran aground in the scenic Skåtøy Sound while making its way to Jomfruland. This grounding was attributed to a technical malfunction onboard the vessel. After successful refloating efforts, the 'Kragerø' proceeded to its intended destination, where divers conducted a thorough inspection of the hull. Fortunately, they discovered only a minor scratch on the keel. Following the inspection, the ship was cleared to resume operations after obtaining a release from Veritas.
Ferry Incident Leads to Water Ingress Following Grounding at Schweigaardsholmen
On December 23, 2012, the ferry "Kragerø" encountered a troubling situation as it ran aground at Schweigaardsholmen. The vessel was carrying 11 passengers, three vehicles, and a crew of three at the time of the incident. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported; however, the ferry did experience water ingress. After the grounding, the "Kragerø" was able to navigate back to Jomfruland under its own power and subsequently returned to Kragerø on December 24 for a thorough inspection of the damages. Authorities have reached out to the captain for further details, and it appears that extremely poor visibility may have contributed to the grounding. At this time, the full extent of the damage remains undetermined.
