On February 5, 2016, the bulkcarrier 'Pintail' departed from Mongla port carrying 21,000 tonnes of wheat deemed substandard. This consignment, which the vessel had initially brought from France and anchored at Mongla on October 12, 2016, was found to be rotten and infested with insects by officials from the Directorate General of Food just prior to the unloading process. Prior to its stay at Mongla, the Pintail had made its way to Chittagong port in April 2015 with 52,000 tonnes of wheat, successfully unloading 31,000 tonnes there before heading on to Mongla with the remaining cargo.

Since October 12, 2015, the bulk carrier "Pintail" has found itself in a state of limbo at Mongla port, unable to discharge the remaining 5,500 tons of wheat it imported from France. The situation has arisen due to a bureaucratic standoff with the Foods Directorate in Bangladesh, which has imposed a ban on the cargo under undisclosed circumstances. As the months pass, the crew aboard the ship is facing dwindling supplies amid claims from food import authorities that the wheat onboard has spoiled. This ongoing dispute raises significant questions about trade regulations and port operations in Bangladesh.
