In an incredible display of seamanship and compassion, the crew of the Wallem-managed vessel 'KSL Seoul' successfully rescued six fishermen on June 9, 2018, after their boat, the 'Sister Reds', capsized in the treacherous waters of the Mindoro Strait. While en route to Port Walcott in Western Australia, the vigilant crew spotted the distressed fishermen clinging to the hull of their overturned vessel. Upon identification of the emergency, the 'KSL Seoul' immediately alerted the Philippine Coast Guard and the local Maritime Rescue Coordinating Council (MRCC). The ship then altered its course to engage in the rescue operation. Utilizing life rings and cargo nets, the crew swiftly pulled the six Filipino fishermen aboard, ensuring that all were retrieved in excellent condition, aside from one who sustained minor cuts and required treatment in the ship’s hospital. Following the successful rescue, 'KSL Seoul' proceeded to rendezvous with the Philippine Coast Guard ten nautical miles north of Cabra Island. The next morning, all six fishermen were safely transferred to the Coast Guard vessel 'Cape San Agustin'. With the rescue operation concluded, 'KSL Seoul' continued its journey towards Australia, demonstrating the crucial role of maritime safety and rescue in our seas.
