Ferry 'Kvam' Rescued After Engine Failure Near Kvamsøya

Jun 09, 2017 21:16

On June 9, 2017, the ferry 'Kvam', which operates on the route connecting Larsnes, Åram, Voksa, and Kvamsøya, experienced significant engine trouble while navigating near Kvamsøya. Shortly after its departure around 10:30 a.m. with 10 passengers onboard, witnesses at Hakallestranda reported hearing two alarming loud bangs. Following the mechanical failure, the vessel began to drift away from the coastline. Fortunately, the ambulance boat 'Ambu' responded promptly, arriving to assist and successfully towing the 'Kvam' back to Kvamsøya by approximately 11:00 a.m. Although a backup ferry was scheduled to replace the 'Kvam', it had to be redirected from its ongoing Skjeltene - Lepsøy - Haramsøy route, leading to an anticipated arrival time of four hours later. The 'Kvam' was subsequently slated to be towed to a repair yard for thorough inspections. Ferry Accident at Voksa Pier: Kvam Collides with Quay

Mar 30, 2013 10:51

On March 29, 2013, at approximately 10 p.m., the ferry 'Kvam' experienced a mishap when it collided with the quay at Voksa in Sande. The incident resulted in considerable damage to the trapdoor of the vessel, yet fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the passengers or crew. At the time of the accident, the ferry was carrying six cars and around ten passengers. After the collision, the 'Kvam' continued its journey to Kvamsøya, allowing the remaining passengers to disembark. However, due to the damage incurred, vehicles could only exit through the undamaged end of the ferry. In response to this incident, the ferry 'Strandebarm' was introduced to the service on March 30. Initial reports suggest that a technical failure was the underlying cause of the accident.
