In a swift operation, the United States Coast Guard successfully medevaced a 20-year-old man from the bulk carrier 'Lacta' on May 17, 2022. The vessel was navigating from New Orleans to Houston when the incident occurred approximately 130 miles southeast of Galveston, Texas. The medevac request was received at 7:27 p.m. by the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston command center, reporting that the crewmember was suffering from severe complications related to high blood pressure. Hydraulic Hose Malfunction Delays Bulker in Elliott Bay

Apr 10, 2014 22:01

In a recent incident, the MV Starful, a bulk carrier en route to Harbor Island to deliver a grain cargo, experienced a significant setback due to a failed hydraulic hose. The ship, managed by Singapore's ISM Ship Management Co. and crewed primarily by Filipino sailors under a Korean captain, was forced to anchor in Elliott Bay after a lifeboat operational test revealed a blown hydraulic line. The high-pressure hose, rated at 5,000 PSI, was critical to the lifeboat's function during the test. Attempted repairs by the crew were unsuccessful, leading to the decision to drop anchor. To expedite the repair process, Arrow Marine Services arranged for a technician to reach the vessel. The technician arrived 20 minutes later and was able to successfully rectify the issue. Following the repairs, the MV Starful resumed its journey, departing Seattle on April 6, 2014, shortly past midnight.
