Final Report Released on 'Landegode' Allision Incident

Nov 17, 2025 13:22

The investigation into the allision of the ferry 'Landegode' with the quay on September 4th has been finalized. According to the findings, the vessel encountered an unexpected situation as it was drawn toward the dumper decks (fenders) located 5-10 meters from the ferry bridge. In response to the circumstances, the captain applied some forward speed, but the vessel quickly loosed its docking lines and accelerated towards the ferry bridge. Attempts to maneuver away were unsuccessful, resulting in the vessel striking the ferry quay at an estimated speed of one knot. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among passengers or crew; however, significant damage occurred to the ferry quay, with only minor damage to the ferry itself. Following the incident, the 'Landegode' continued on to Svolvær, where all passengers and vehicles were disembarked. Due to the damages incurred, the ferry quay remained closed for several days, leading to ferries being redirected to Svolvær instead. Currently, the 'Landegode' has been docked at Havyard Leirvik AS in Hyllestad/Leirvik since September 10th, awaiting further assessments.

Moskenes Ferry Pier Resumes Operations After Brief Closure

Sep 17, 2025 11:59

On September 10, 2025, the ferry pier in Moskenes officially reopened, allowing for the resumption of regular services on the Bodø-Røst-Værøy-Moskenes route. The first ferry departed for Bodø at 3:15 p.m., with an expected arrival in Moskenes at 6:30 p.m. Prior to this, the last alternative service operated from Svolvær at 7:45 a.m., reaching Bodø by 11:45 a.m. Initially slated to open on September 9, the reopening was delayed by one day, causing minor disruptions for travelers. Notably, the ferry 'Landegode' left Bodø on September 8 and docked in Kjøreneset near Leirvik on September 10, where it was positioned as of September 17.

Ongoing Repairs for Moskenes Ferry Pier Following 'Landegode' Incident

Sep 10, 2025 11:30

The ferry pier in Moskenes municipality remains inactive after the unfortunate incident involving the ferry 'Landegode'. The mishap occurred when the vessel collided with the pier, leading to significant damage. As of September 9, extensive assessments revealed harm to the cylinder, lifting tower, hoses, hydraulic pipes, and railings. Comprehensive inspections of the entire ferry bridge were initiated to ensure safety. Repair operations commenced on September 6, aimed at restoring the pier to full functionality. Fortunately, the 'Landegode' itself sustained only minor damage from the collision. In the interim, a temporary ferry service was established, providing direct connections between Bodø and Svolvær starting the evening of September 5, to accommodate travelers affected by the pier closure.

Moskenes Ferry Pier Repairs Set to Conclude Soon

Sep 08, 2025 11:24

On September 8, repair work commenced on the Moskenes ferry pier, with plans to resume operations by September 9 at 4:45 PM. This development follows the unfortunate incident on September 4 at 8 PM, when the ferry 'Landegode' collided with the pier, leading to immediate cancellations of sailings between Bodø and Moskenes in Lofoten. If the repairs progress as anticipated, the Bodø to Lofoten ferry service will normalize shortly. In the interim, a temporary ferry route connecting Bodø and Svolvær remains active as of September 8, although it takes approximately 75 minutes longer than the standard Bodø to Moskenes route. Travelers are encouraged to check Torghatten’s website for the latest updates on ferry schedules. Notably, the 'Landegode' was shifted back to Bodø on September 7 as part of the response to the incident.

Ferry Accident at Moskenes: Landegode Allides with Quay

Sep 05, 2025 13:36

In a concerning maritime incident on September 4, 2025, the ferry 'Landegode', which operates on the Bodø–Røst–Værøy–Moskenes route, suffered an allision with the quay at Moskenes shortly after 8 p.m. The ferry was carrying 232 passengers and 13 crew members at the time of the accident, which resulted in notable damage to the ferry berth. Unfortunately, the ferry's ramp became inoperable, preventing passengers and their vehicles—ranging from trailers to buses—from disembarking initially, as the vessel had collided directly with the quay. Further attempts to dock led to additional complications, including the ferry's door falling into the water. The captain promptly addressed passengers via the loudspeaker system, informing them that the ferry dock had been destroyed and that some motorcycles had been overturned. Thankfully, no injuries were reported following the incident. Local police arrived at approximately 9 p.m. to conduct an investigation and formally opened a case concerning the event. After a brief period, passengers were able to disembark using a walkway from the ferry to shore. Despite sustaining damage, the Norwegian Maritime Authority granted the 'Landegode' clearance to continue its journey to Svolvær, where it arrived at around 3:30 a.m. on September 5. Once there, the remaining passengers and vehicles were safely unloaded. The situation at the ferry pier in Moskenes escalated into chaos, with numerous people and cars stranded and unable to proceed to Bodø. Consequently, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration undertook a thorough inspection of the quay and the ferry on the morning of September 5. Repairs to the ferry are anticipated to be coordinated closely with authorities in Svolvær. Notably, the 'Landegode' was scheduled for engine conversion from LNG to biodiesel on September 8, just days after the incident. In light of the disruption, all ferry departures marked 'A' on the Bodø–Moskenes route were canceled indefinitely. Travelers were advised to explore alternative routes via Bognes–Lødingen. The Road Traffic Information Centre highlighted that the suspension of services would exacerbate road traffic challenges for both tourists and residents of Lofoten. With Lofoten limited to a single access point, traffic congestion was expected to increase on the E10 roadway as tourists rerouted their travel plans. The responsibility for repairing the ferry pier lies with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and their subcontractors, with operations anticipated to resume as early as the following week. As of now, ferry services have been provisionally suspended until September 12 at 6 p.m., pending further assessments. Incident Aboard the Ferry Landegode Following Engine Malfunction

Jun 05, 2019 10:56

On June 5, 2019, the ferry 'Landegode' embarked on its journey from Moskenes at 7:40 a.m., headed for Bodø. However, about thirty minutes into the voyage, the vessel encountered significant engine issues due to a ruptured gas pipe, which resulted in the ship temporarily losing power. With 155 passengers and 13 crew members on board, the captain initially employed the auxiliary engine, anticipating that repairs could be completed within an hour. Unfortunately, as the situation developed, the necessary repairs proved unattainable. By 8:30 a.m., the 'Landegode' resumed travel towards Bodø at a reduced speed, estimating an arrival time around noon. However, at 10:00 a.m., the ferry lost all engine power while located at coordinates 67° 33.36' N 013° 43.90' E, north of Helligvær. Promptly, the captain requested assistance from a lifeboat. Fortunately, the ferry was situated far enough from the coast, approximately 1.5 hours of sailing distance away, ensuring there was no immediate threat of grounding. The lifeboat 'Odd Fellow III' departed from Bodø at 11:00 a.m. to provide support, joined by the ferries 'Bodø' (IMO-N: 9151010) and 'Vaerøy' (IMO: 9607382), along with the lifeboat 'Det Norske Veritas'. During this time, there were reports of smoke originating from the auxiliary engine due to overheating, but no fire was detected, with the situation remaining manageable. In response to potential hazards, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre dispatched a smoke diver group and a Sea King helicopter, ready to deploy a Rapid Intervention Team (RITS) if conditions worsened. At 11:42 a.m., the 'Det Norske Veritas' successfully took the 'Landegode' in tow, pulling it towards Bodø at a speed of four knots, while the other vessels escorted the operation. By 3:00 p.m., the ferry safely arrived at port. After undergoing inspections, the 'Landegode' resumed its service from Bodø on June 6 at 5:40 p.m., setting sail from Moskenes again at 8:45 p.m. For further details, please refer to the Norwegian news coverage with accompanying visuals: https://www.lofotposten.no/ferge/moskenes/bodo/landegode-fikk-motorproblemer/s/5-29-495719, https://www.nordlys.no/ferge/roykutvikling/nordland/stor-redningsaksjon-etter-roykutvikling-i-ferge-med-168-om-bord/s/5-34-1135183, https://www.nrk.no/nordland/full-stans-for-bilferge-med-155-passasjerer-1.14577142.
