Tragic Food Poisoning Incident Claims Life on 'Lanna Naree'
A devastating incident unfolded aboard the cargo ship 'Lanna Naree' on February 5, 2021, as a mass food poisoning outbreak struck the crew while navigating the Indian Ocean, southeast of the Maldives. The vessel, which was journeying from Laem Chabang, Thailand, to Puerto Rico, altered its course to reach Male, arriving on February 9. Out of the 18 crew members onboard, all were affected by the food poisoning, resulting in the unfortunate death of one crew member. Following the incident, the crew was safely disembarked on February 10, with a new crew set to replace them in Male. The repatriation efforts were aided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. After addressing the situation, the 'Lanna Naree' departed Male on February 11 to continue its voyage, with an estimated time of arrival in Puerto Rico projected for March 19.
