Jan De Nul Set to Dredge 10 Million Cubic Meters in Sabetta with 18 Vessels This Year

Sep 26, 2013 09:43

Jan De Nul has announced an ambitious dredging operation in Sabetta, aiming to remove a substantial 10 million cubic meters of material over a focused 10-week timeframe. The company, a leader in dredging services, revealed this news via its press center. The dredging endeavor commenced on August 2, 2013, and this year's project will see a formidable fleet of 18 vessels in action. Among these vessels are cutting-edge cutter suction dredgers such as the Leonardo Da Vinci, equipped with an impressive installed power of 20.26 MW, measuring 129.7 meters in length with a draught of 5.2 meters, and the Niccolo Machiavelli, boasting 23.52 MW of installed power and dimensions of 138.5 meters long and a draught of 5.5 meters. Other significant contributors to this operation include trailing suction hopper dredgers like the Bartolomeu Diaz, which has a hopper capacity of 14,000 cubic meters, a length of 147.8 meters, and can reach dredging depths of up to 52 meters. Additional vessels include the Al Idrisi, Francesco Di Giorgio, and Amerigo Vespucci, each with varying capacities and capabilities tailored to the project's requirements. The dredging fleet also comprises split hopper barges—Boussole, L’Aigle, Tiger, Astrolabe, and Le Guerrier—all bearing a hopper capacity of 3,700 cubic meters and standardized dimensions. Alongside these primary equipment units, the operation is supported by anchor boats, tugboats, survey vessels, and a pontoon dedicated to berth operations. This comprehensive effort emphasizes Jan De Nul's strong commitment to advancing maritime infrastructure and highlights its operational expertise in complex dredging projects.
