Lily Ha Faces Second Detention in Weeks Amid Serious Deficiencies
On January 30, 2026, the bulk carrier Lily Ha was detained in Canakkale, Turkey, due to a staggering 24 identified deficiencies, including 11 categorized as serious, which warranted the vessel's detention. The critical issues included deficiencies in fire safety measures, such as inoperative ventilation systems, inadequate fire detection and alarm systems, and unsafe fire doors within fire-resistant divisions. Additionally, the vessel's safety of navigation systems raised concerns, with malfunctioning lights, shapes, sound signals, and a defective BNWAS noted. Further deficiencies included a lack of documentation for drills and steering gear tests, corroded decks, and non-compliance with gas detection instrument standards. Notably, the International Safety Management (ISM) certificate was also listed as insufficient. The Lily Ha was released on the same day of detention and is currently on its way to Aliaga. This incident comes just weeks after the vessel's previous detention on December 16, 2025, in Constanta, where it faced 24 deficiencies and remained docked for 38 days.
Significant Detention of the 'Lily Ha' in Constanta Due to Major Deficiencies
On December 16, 2025, the vessel 'Lily Ha' was detained in Constanta following the discovery of a staggering 24 deficiencies on board, with 18 of these classified as serious violations warranting detention. Among the critical issues identified were: an invalid Minimum Safe Manning document, an expired Seafarers Employment Agreement, and a lapsed Medical Certificate. Furthermore, the vessel lacked essential endorsements from the flag state. Structural integrity was also a concern, as cracks in the hull and extensive corrosion on both decks and bulkheads were noted. Additional deficiencies included absent stability and loading information, expired nautical publications required for safe navigation, and a non-compliant voyage data recorder. Fire safety systems were found lacking, with high pressure jacketed lines and oil leakage alarms deemed inoperative, alongside a malfunctioning fire detection and alarm system. Other labor conditions drew attention, including an unclean engine room and ineffective heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems. Emergency systems were also compromised, with an inoperative emergency generator and insufficient pressure in the emergency fire pumps and pipes. Lastly, the ISM certificate was reported as not compliant. After addressing these serious concerns, the 'Lily Ha' was finally released from detention on January 22, 2026.
