The Coast Guard Sector Columbia River in Astoria has granted the 'Wave Venture' permission to resume its maritime operations, departing from Portland, Oregon, on April 9, 2012. This authorization follows the rectification of safety issues identified during inspections earlier in March. The Coast Guard's Port State Control Branch, part of Sector Columbia River's Marine Safety Unit in Portland, conducted a series of inspections that ultimately led to the vessel’s detention on March 29, 2012. The inspection revealed several critical discrepancies that necessitated the vessel's detention, including a malfunctioning rescue boat that failed to start within the required timeframe, multiple nonfunctional primary fire boundary doors, and an excessive accumulation of oil in the engine room bilges. Consequently, the Wave Venture was docked at Vigor Shipyard, Swan Island, Berth 304, for necessary repairs. Following thorough repairs and upgrades, the crew has successfully addressed all identified safety deficiencies. The vessel has since passed multiple inspections by the Coast Guard and received the necessary approvals from both the Coast Guard and the American Bureau of Shipping's Class Society, paving the way for its return to sea.
