Golar LNG Limited Completes Sale of Golar Viking to Equinox
Golar LNG Limited has successfully finalized the transaction concerning its liquefied natural gas carrier (LNGC), the Golar Viking, a vessel built in 2005. The carrier has been sold to PT Perusahaan Pelayaran Equinox for a noteworthy sale price of $135 million. The Golar Viking has now been rebranded as 'Salju' and operates under the Indonesian flag and registry. This acquisition aligns with Indonesian cabotage regulations, which mandate that LNG cargoes produced and sold domestically must be transported by Indonesian-flagged vessels. Anticipating a significant rise in domestic allocation for Indonesian-produced LNG cargoes in 2015, Equinox deems this acquisition timely, strategically transferring the vessel to raise its operational compliance within the region.
Historic Delivery: Qatargas Ships First LNG Cargo to Thailand
In a landmark event for both Qatargas and Thailand's energy sector, the first-ever liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo has successfully arrived in Thailand. The delivery, which took place at the Map Ta Phut LNG terminal, was executed by the conventional LNG carrier Golar Viking. This significant shipment marks Qatar's inaugural LNG export to the South Asian nation. Setting sail from Ras Laffan Port on May 17, the Golar Viking transported approximately 131,000 cubic meters of LNG. This delivery is part of a strategic agreement between Qatargas and PTT Public Company, wherein two initial commissioning cargoes are being provided to facilitate the operational launch of the new LNG terminal at Map Ta Phut.
