MV Lone of SAL Heavy Lift Facilitates Major Shipment of Twelve DAMEN Vessels
The Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands, recently welcomed a significant shipment led by SAL Heavy Lift's MV Lone, delivering an impressive batch of twelve new vessels constructed by DAMEN at its facilities in Vietnam. This delivery includes a diverse array of vessels: two Stan Tugs 2608, three ASD Tugs 2411, four ASD Tugs 2810, two ASD Tugs 3212, and one Multi Cat 1908, all designed for strategic positioning within Europe. This initiative enhances DAMEN's readiness to cater to the growing demands of clients and operators across Europe, Western Africa, and Central America, ensuring prompt delivery of top-quality vessels. The approach of transporting multiple vessels simultaneously isn't novel for DAMEN, which has consistently utilized this method to boost efficiency in vessel distribution. This strategy not only optimizes logistics but also facilitates faster response times to market requirements. Moreover, DAMEN has innovated a modular vessel cradle system that, paired with integrated lifting points on the tugs, guarantees safe and efficient loading and unloading processes. SAL Heavy Lift has collaborated extensively with DAMEN on engineered heavy lift transport solutions, previously exemplified by the successful transport of Stan Pontoons and Tugs from DAMEN's production sites in China and Vietnam last year using the MV Svenja, which carried 14 vessels. This latest operation further cements the partnership between SAL Heavy Lift and DAMEN in bringing state-of-the-art maritime solutions to the global market.
Tugged to Safety: Lone's Journey to Hamburg
The cargo vessel, "Lone," encountered propulsion issues while navigating towards the Elbe after departing from Edinburgh. On May 14, 2016, the ship was anchored near Burntisland as it grappled with diminished speed, approximately 7 knots. On May 23, the situation escalated as the "Lone" was towed by the tugboat "Multratug 4" into German waters, southeast of Heligoland. Once in proximity to Hamburg, port tugs "Bugsier 1" and "Bugsier 14" took over the tow, ensuring the vessel's safe passage to the city. The ship finally reached the Norder Yard at 5:20 PM, successfully concluding its journey.
SAL Heavy Lift Ventures into Offshore Renewable Energy Sector
SAL Heavy Lift, a maritime logistics firm based in Germany, has successfully entered the offshore renewable energy sector. The company was selected by Bilfinger, a prominent German engineering and services group, to serve as a subcontractor for the test pile installation at the Wikinger offshore wind farm project. Utilizing the DP Class II vessel 'MV Lone', SAL transported and installed the test piles and associated equipment. The goal of the MV Lone's crew during this project was to validate the design of the wind farm's foundation by assessing the performance of the test piles against various loading conditions, including static, dynamic, and cyclic loads that are typical for offshore structures. The Wikinger offshore wind farm, situated 30 kilometers off the coast of Rügen Island in the Baltic Sea, spans an area of 34 square kilometers. It is being developed by the Spanish energy giant Iberdrola, and will feature 70 wind turbines with a projected capacity of up to 350 MW. Operations for the ambitious project are anticipated to commence in 2017.
