Working Conditions Aboard the Longdawn

On January 6, 2020, at 9:25 p.m., the cargo ship 'Louis' encountered complications with its fuel injector system while navigating approximately nine miles southeast of Beachy Head, positioned at 50° 39' 13" N and 000° 26' 51" E. The vessel, which was transporting over 2,500 tonnes of non-hazardous windmill-related cargo, had 11 crew members onboard during the incident. Repair operations were expected to take about two hours, and the crew confirmed that external assistance was unnecessary. The 'Louis' subsequently anchored in the area to conduct the necessary repairs before continuing its journey to Olvia from Rostock.

Following a dockyard accident involving the vessel 'Louis' at a drydock in Nikolayev, safety protocols were tested when a malfunctioning dock door allowed an influx of water that dislodged the mooring lines. This unfortunate incident occurred on October 24, causing the vessel to collide with the concrete framing of the dock. Fortunately, the crew managed to reposition the ship for discharge using ropes and the assistance of tugs. Although 'Louis' sustained notable damage—including dents and scratches to its bulb and port side hull, a punctured lifeboat, a damaged gangway, and issues with its ballast tanks and steering gear—there were no reports of pollution or injuries. The repairs, conducted in Varn from November 18 to December 1, concluded at 4:15 p.m. on the latter date. The ship is now en route to Ünye, with an estimated time of arrival on December 3.

On October 18, 2019, the maritime setting in Nikolayev was shaken by an unforeseen incident when the vessel 'Louis' was docked for maintenance. While offloading its project cargo using the dry dock's gantry crane, a major structural failure occurred. A 300-meter wall, which functioned as a division within the dry dock, collapsed unexpectedly. This resulted in a dramatic influx of water pouring into the facility from a height of 15 meters, flooding the previously dry section of the dock. As the water cascaded in, the ship's bow plummeted into the torrent, which, combined with river water rushing into the area, helped to cushion the fall to some extent. Unfortunately, the 'Louis' collided with the wall upon striking the water, leading to damage in its ballast tanks. As of October 19, the vessel remained stationary in the dry dock, prompting concerns over the extent of the damage sustained.
