Former Irish Mussel Trawler Set to Transform Into Research Vessel Lepelaar
Rijkswaterstaat has made an impactful acquisition by purchasing the former Irish mussel trawler known as 'BS-12 Lottie Holly'. This vessel, originally constructed in 2013 by the renowned Maaskant Shipyards in Stellendam, will undergo a significant transformation into a dedicated research vessel focused on the fisheries sector, with the conversion taking place at Damen Maaskant. The 'Lottie Holly' was built for Kim Mould of Myti Mussels Ltd., located in Beaumaris. In 2022, the Dingemanse family, who have been established in Wexford for over 25 years, took ownership of Myti Mussels from Kim Mould, acquiring both the 'Lottie Holly' and the 'BS-8 Valente', the latter having been inactive for some time prior to the sale. Anticipation is building as the 'Lottie Holly' is projected to commence operations under her new name, 'Lepelaar', by the summer of 2026, effectively replacing the current research vessel 'Stern', which has been assigned to various other research endeavors.
