The 'Erdogan Senkaya', which was approaching the port to load steel, collided with the already moored 'Luca S' that was preparing to discharge its cargo of silica sand. The collision occurred when the 'Erdogan Senkaya' lost control during its mooring maneuver, impacting the starboard side of the 'Luca S' with its bulbous bow, causing a significant gash that allowed water to enter the vessel. Thankfully, the ingress was initially contained within the ballast tank, eliminating immediate concerns about sinking. The crew of the 'Luca S' acted swiftly, managing to fill other ballast tanks and expedite unloading to correct the ship's trim, which ultimately raised the breach above water level. Local maritime authorities were quick to respond, deploying two teams from the Coast Guard of Porto Nogaro, including a patrol boat and shore patrols. They conducted initial assessments, ensured safety protocols were observed in the port, and took measures to prevent any pollution.
