On August 22, 2022, a dramatic incident unfolded on the North Sea involving a crew member of the hopper dredger 'Magni R'. At approximately 2:45 PM, a 35-year-old Polish seaman fell overboard and became entangled in a line. Remarkably, he was able to climb back aboard but soon reported excruciating pain in his leg, prompting an urgent call for medical assistance. The dedicated volunteer crew of the 'Secretarius', belonging to the DGzRS (German Maritime Search and Rescue Service) station in Langeoog, swiftly responded to the emergency. By the time they arrived at the scene, located just a few nautical miles north of Langeoog, the crew had already provided the injured mariner with dry clothes and warm blankets to stabilize him. One of the rescue team members climbed aboard the 'Magni R' to assess the situation and administer initial medical care. Additionally, the crew of the 'Magni R' assisted the rescuers in carefully transferring the injured man onto the lifeboat, all while navigating moderate sea conditions accompanied by a light north-easterly breeze. Once safely aboard the lifeboat, the injured crew member was transported to Bensersiel, where a land-based rescue service took over his care and transported him to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
