On November 27, 2014, the bulk carrier 'Golden Eye', while loaded with limestone from the Philippine Mining and Sintering Corporation, encountered a severe storm named Quennie in Garcia Hernandez, Bohol. The vessel was struck by powerful waves, resulting in its collision with a berthing dolphin, which caused significant damage. During the ordeal, the 'Golden Eye' sustained three punctures on its side as it was forcibly deposited atop a fallen dolphin by a particularly large wave. The precarious positioning of the ship has kept the punctured holes elevated, preventing seawater from flooding the interior. These holes are located in the ballast tanks, raising concerns about the structural integrity of the vessel. Additionally, the cargo ship was carrying 300 metric tons of bunker fuel, necessitating the safe extraction of the fuel before any attempts to remove the ship from its precarious perch can begin. In response to the situation, the Coast Guard has coordinated efforts with the local government unit of Garcia Hernandez, military forces, reservists, and volunteers, all of whom are on standby to assist with the salvage operation and ensure the safety of the surrounding marine environment.
