The fate of the detained vessel 'Caballo Maya' is anticipated to be clarified within the next month, as shared by Delfino Cruz Santos, the former captain of Puerto de Veracruz. Currently, the ship remains under the watchful eye of port authorities at the Veracruz facilities. The freighter is under the ownership of Panamanian company Marfield LTD, which must settle outstanding charges for its stay at the port or provide a financial guarantee before its eventual departure. Meanwhile, the original crew has been replaced by a new team.

The 'Caballo Maya' has made its return to T dock in Veracruz following over a year spent moored at the port, where its legal status remains unsettled. The vessel is currently at the center of a dispute involving two companies, including its previous operator, Oceanography, and another rival entity. This ongoing conflict has also been complicated by frequent changes in the crew aboard the ship, leading to financial difficulties for some members who have reportedly not received their wages.

In a significant move ahead of the cyclone season, the vessel 'Caballo Maya' has been shifted from its previous position at the Veracruz anchorage to Pier T. The relocation comes after concerns arose regarding the ship's main engine, which has faced maintenance issues exacerbated by legal restrictions preventing access to conduct necessary repairs. This measure is aimed at enhancing safety during the impending stormy weather conditions. Following this, the ship is scheduled to be moved again to another area within the Port of Veracruz in preparation for the upcoming Navy Day celebrations on June 1. The 'Caballo Maya' is part of the Banamax fleet, which was confiscated by the federal government amid allegations of fraud exceeding six billion Pesos.
