Megalochari-Xii Vessel Reviews and Specifications

On the morning of August 11, 2021, the Port Authority of Thessaloniki received reports of an allision involving the tanker 'Providence' (IMO: 9531545). As the vessel was departing from the port, it made slight contact with the berthed tug, 'Megalochari XII,' resulting in damage to the tug's starboard side. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or signs of pollution stemming from the incident. In the wake of the allision, the Central Port Authority of Thessaloniki has initiated a preliminary investigation and has grounded the tug until it can present a certificate of seaworthiness from the attending classification society. Meanwhile, the 'Thessaloniki' made port at Alexandroupolis on August 12.

On February 23, 2018, a collision occurred between the tugboat 'Megalochari 12' and the tug 'Karapipperis 16' (IMO: 8410213), while the latter was preparing for a towing operation of the tanker 'Eko IX' (MMSI: 239893400) at Patras port. The incident resulted in a noticeable crack in the hull of the 'Karapipperis 16', leading to water ingress at the starboard side stern. Fortunately, there was no marine pollution reported. Following the accident, the Port Authority of Patras took measures to detain the 'Karapipperis 16' until necessary repairs were completed and a seaworthiness certificate was obtained from the relevant classification society. The 'Megalochari 12' subsequently arrived in Thessaloniki on February 26 at 7 a.m., while the 'Karapipperis 16' was docked in Piraeus.
