Ferry Collision Incident Near Santos Port
On the early morning of May 11, 2014, a maritime incident occurred involving the cargo ship "Copenhagen" and the ferry "FB 23" operated by Dersa, just off the coast of São Paulo. The accident took place at approximately 2:25 a.m. as the "Copenhagen" departed from the Santos Dock and navigated out of the approach channel leading to the Port of Santos. Following the collision, the "Copenhagen" made its way back to warehouse 32. Subsequent to the incident, the local port authority conducted interviews on May 12 with the vessel's master, his deputy, and the chief engineer involved in the situation. Eyewitness accounts revealed that the cargo ship experienced a power failure shortly before the impact, which occurred with the "FB 23" that was moored at the quay, unoccupied by passengers. While the "Copenhagen" sustained damage to its superstructure, the "FB 23" incurred hull damage but remained operational, with repairs anticipated in the days following the collision. Fortunately, no pollution was reported as a result of this incident.
