The Mercator: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

A tragic work-related accident occurred on November 12, 2018, aboard the cargo vessel 'Mercator' while docked at Holmen in Drammen, Norway. The incident took place at approximately 11:45 a.m. when a Filipino worker, operating a wheel loader in the hold where gravel was being loaded, suffered a fatal mishap. Reports indicate that the loader toppled, trapping the worker between the compartment and the front wheel. Emergency services responded swiftly, and the injured worker was airlifted to the hospital. Although he was unconscious upon arrival, hope remained for his survival. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries at Drammen Hospital just a few hours later, at 1:30 p.m. In light of this unfortunate event, the Labour Inspectorate has been notified in accordance with regulations. Local authorities, including the police, are conducting a thorough investigation, including technical assessments and interviews with witnesses, to unravel the circumstances surrounding this accident.
