Incident Involving Fenja: Passenger Ferry Runs Aground

Dec 16, 2015 09:54

On the morning of December 15, 2015, the ferry 'Fenja' found itself in a challenging situation, running aground at 8:10 a.m. while navigating the waters between Fanø and Esbjerg. This grounding incident affected 63 passengers on board and was attributed to a combination of low water levels and limited visibility in the area. In response to the situation, those onboard were safely transferred to the smaller passenger ferry 'Sønderho'. Meanwhile, the 'Fenja' remained grounded, awaiting the afternoon's higher water levels for its release. Passengers with vehicles on the ferry were unfortunately required to leave their cars behind during this incident. After the successful transfer, 'Sønderho' continued to Esbjerg, arriving at 2 p.m., while the 'Fenja' was substituted by the ferry 'Menja'. This was not the first occurrence for the 'Fenja', as it had previously run aground on November 6. Fenja Ferry Grounding Incident near Fanø Island

Nov 07, 2015 19:37

On November 6, 2015, at approximately 3:40 PM, the ferry 'Fenja' grounded outside the designated fairway, about half a mile from Nordby, located on Fanø Island. The incident occurred while the vessel was carrying 110 passengers. Factors contributing to the grounding included an extremely low tide and limited visibility, which resulted in the ferry drifting approximately 50 meters off course. Fortunately, the 'Fenja' was able to free itself using its own power during the high tide around 7 PM the same day. Fano Island Residents Call for Reduced Ferry Fares to Boost Tourism

Jan 24, 2014 10:54

As the Danish government aims to revitalize tourism along the picturesque west coast, residents of Fano Island are advocating for a reduction in ferry fares between Fano and Esbjerg. The local community is eager to welcome more visitors but finds the current transportation prices prohibitively high. The government's growth strategy envisions an increase in German tourists vacationing on the beautiful Danish coast. In light of this, Fano Municipality has formally requested a meeting with the Minister of Transport to address the rising costs of the Fano ferry service. Presently, a return ticket for a car and passengers on the 12-minute ferry journey between Esbjerg and Nordby costs 300 kroner outside of the high season, which kicks off on May 1st. During peak summer months, ferry fares soar to 415 kroner, marking a staggering 40 percent increase. Over the past two decades, coastal tourism in Denmark has experienced a dramatic decline, dropping nearly a third. Currently, coastal tourism represents approximately 40 percent of Denmark's overall tourism revenue. Business and Growth Minister Henrik Sass Larsen remains optimistic that the new growth plan will ignite positive change, helping to rejuvenate this vital sector.
