Successful Recovery of Sunken Trawler Near Rügen Island
On February 15, 2017, the salvage operation led by the Rostock-based company Baltic successfully raised the fishing vessel 'Potsdam' from the depths, 16 miles east of Sassnitz. The undertaking involved the crane ship 'Sanne A' and the converted ferry 'Mira A', along with the anti-pollution vessel 'Arkona'. The 17-meter trawler, which tragically sank on the night of July 28, 2017 while en route to breakers in Denmark, had become a significant hazard to navigation, lying at a water depth of 12.4 meters. The urgent need for its removal prompted the salvage mission, which incurred costs of approximately €180,000. Following the recovery, the wreck was securely placed on the deck of 'Mira A', which then proceeded to Rostock, arriving the next day on February 16.
