Disabled Vessel 'Mohsen' Rescued and Towed to Chios

Jun 02, 2025 11:33

On May 30, 2025, at midday, the Port Authority of Chios received a notification from the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JJRCC) of the Greek Coast Guard regarding the 'Mohsen'. This vessel experienced a mechanical failure while navigating three nautical miles northeast of Psara during its journey from Dikili to Durres, carrying a crew of 13. In response, local emergency protocols were swiftly enacted. Coast Guard patrol boats, a lifeboat, and the Greek Navy's 'Michalis S' were deployed to assist. Initially, the 'Mohsen' was secured by another vessel, but control of the tow was later transferred to the 'Michalis S', which was accompanied by the lifeboat. The ship successfully reached the anchorage of Chios, with coordinates 38° 23' N 026° 09' E, where it remained stationary as of June 2. The Central Port Authority of Chios has placed a sailing ban on the vessel until all necessary repairs are completed and a maintenance certificate is obtained from the overseeing classification society. Additionally, administrative penalties were enforced, as the Master failed to notify the Port Authority regarding the mechanical issues, contravening required protocols.
