Cargo Ship Sinks After Collision with Tanker Off Myanmar

Jan 26, 2016 09:50

On January 25, 2016, a maritime incident unfolded at approximately 2 p.m. when the cargo vessel 'Dong Thien Phu Silver' collided with the tanker 'Ocean Osprey' in the waters off Myanmar. The collision resulted in the sinking of the cargo ship, prompting the Myanmar Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) to initiate a search and rescue operation. Thankfully, all 14 Vietnamese crew members aboard the 'Dong Thien Phu Silver' were successfully rescued, with no injuries reported among the crew. Both vessels were en route to Yangon at the time of the accident. Notably, the 'Dong Thien Phu Silver' had recently departed from its last two ports of call, which were Ho Chi Minh City on January 11 and Kantang on January 18. The 'Ocean Osprey', on the other hand, was traveling from Yangon. Following the incident, the tanker was detained due to damage sustained at its bow. Investigations into the accident suggest that human error and adverse weather conditions contributed to the unfortunate event.
