Container Ship Red Cedar Arrives in Antwerp After Losing 13 Containers

Jan 13, 2017 09:22

The container vessel 'Red Cedar' docked at Churchill Dock in Antwerp on January 12 at 8:30 PM, following a tumultuous journey that resulted in the loss of 13 containers. Initially, 10 containers were swept overboard near Texel due to rough weather conditions, and an additional three were lost near IJmuiden. Aerial reconnaissance from a helicopter confirmed sightings of several of these containers floating in the waters. The containers that fell into the sea off Texel were reported to be drifting towards the nearby island of Vlieland. Thankfully, the lost cargo included non-hazardous materials such as grain, engine parts, plastic caps, packing materials, and cardboard boxes. After the incident, the 'Red Cedar' briefly altered its course, potentially to secure any remaining containers, before continuing its journey. On the evening of January 11, the ship made a detour toward the IJmuiden coastline but later resumed its original path, navigating at a reduced speed back towards its intended destination. 15 Containers Lost at Sea Near Texel from Red Cedar

Jan 12, 2017 09:52

On January 11, 2017, the 'Red Cedar,' a cargo vessel en route from Hamburg to Antwerp with an estimated time of arrival on January 12, encountered severe north-westerly winds in the North Sea, leading to the loss of 15 containers. The containers, which were carrying corn, were reported to have fallen overboard near Texel during the afternoon. Before nightfall, a helicopter was able to locate at least two of the drifting containers. In response to the incident, the patrol ship 'Guardian' was deployed to search for the remaining containers. The Coast Guard has issued a warning for maritime traffic in the area, urging vessels to exercise caution and remain vigilant for the drifting containers.
