The vessel 'Patriot' is currently experiencing delays in repair work at berth CB1 in Chennai. Originally scheduled to depart sooner, the ship's timeline has been pushed back to November 27. A devastating fire broke out aboard the merchant vessel 'Patriot' on November 10, 2023, while docked at Chennai Port. The incident occurred during repair work near the ship's engine when workers using a gas cutter inadvertently ignited a fire after sparks landed on a nearby pipe. This tragic event resulted in the immediate death of one worker, while three others sustained injuries and were swiftly transported to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for treatment. The 'Patriot' had arrived at Chennai on October 30 for necessary repairs. Local authorities, including the Harbour police, are currently investigating the situation, as the vessel remains at Chennai International Terminals Pvt Ltd. (CITPL). Fortunately, the incident had only a minor impact on terminal operations.

In a recent maritime transaction, the tanker M/T “Ceylon” (IMO 1234567), which was built in August 2020, has been successfully sold by Eastern Pacific to the Indian shipping company, Seven Islands. The acquisition deal is valued at approximately USD 7.7 million. This sale highlights the ongoing demand in the maritime industry and points towards the expanding influence of Indian buyers in the global shipping market.
