On April 10, 2026, a fire broke out aboard the KM 'Bintang Mas HSB 7', a vessel loaded with fertilizer, at Pier 202 in Ujung Baru, Belawan Port. The blaze ignited at approximately 11:52 a.m. as the ship was getting ready to offload its cargo, creating a scene of chaos among dockworkers in the vicinity. Efforts to combat the fire commenced immediately, but it was quickly realized that more resources were needed. Responding to the emergency, Pelindo officers joined forces with the Medan City Government Fire Department to effectively manage the situation. A fire truck from the Pelindo Belawan Branch, alongside two tugboats and additional fire engines from the Medan City Government, arrived at the scene to assist in extinguishing the flames. The fire, which generated significant smoke, was ultimately brought under control by around 5:30 p.m. WIB, thanks to the coordinated efforts of various teams both from the quay and fire boats.
