The vessel experienced a breakdown in its main engine and is currently awaiting the arrival of crucial spare parts for repairs. In a rather unusual turn of events, the ship's master and two crew members were ferried ashore using a life raft, as they were unable to deploy a lifeboat. Once the necessary spare parts are delivered, the crew will be equipped to repair the engine and get the disable freighter back to sea.

On September 1, 2017, the cargo ship 'Golden Destiny' encountered a significant communication breakdown while navigating the South China Sea, en route from Belawan in northern Sumatra to Balikpapan in eastern Kalimantan. After three days of silence, the crew reestablished contact on the morning of September 4 with the coastal radio near Tanjung Putting National Park. They reported a critical engine failure that led to a complete blackout, rendering all communication systems inoperable. Fortunately, the crew efficiently managed to engage the auxiliary engines, allowing the vessel to resume its journey towards Gosong Senggora in the Tanjung Putting area. They anticipated reaching their destination by the afternoon of September 5, where they planned to anchor and conduct necessary repairs to the main engine before continuing their voyage.
