Incident Involving Kerkyra Express and Odysseas in Corfu
In a notable maritime event, the ferry 'Kerkyra Express' collided with the docked vessel 'Odysseas' in the picturesque port of Corfu during the early hours of September 29, 2018. At the time of the incident, the 'Kerkyra Express' was making its scheduled journey from Igoumenitsa, carrying a total of 93 passengers along with 27 vehicles onboard. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or environmental damage following the allision. However, both vessels sustained some damages; the 'Odysseas' incurred scratches on its port side bow about 2.5 meters above the waterline, while the 'Kerkyra Express' experienced similar abrasions on its starboard side at the same height. Subsequent to the allision, the 'Odysseas' was held until it could present a certificate of seaworthiness. Furthermore, the captain of the 'Kerkyra Express' was taken into custody. The Central Port Authority of Corfu has commenced a preliminary investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.
