Captain Arrested for Alleged Drunk Sailing Off Ã…hus Coast

On March 31, 2017, at approximately 9 p.m., the vessel 'Naos', which had departed from Liepaja, encountered a serious incident while navigating towards the port of Ã…hus. Concerns arose regarding the captain's fitness to operate the ship, prompting the Swedish Maritime Administration's pilot to take action. Sensing irregularities, the pilot ordered the 'Naos' to anchor and subsequently notified the Swedish Coastguard. The patrol boat 'KBV 003' responded swiftly to the scene. Following a successful breathalyzer test revealing alcohol levels exceeding the legal limit, authorities transported the captain to the Kristianstad hospital for further evaluation through a blood test, which confirmed a blood alcohol concentration surpassing one per thousand. The captain was subsequently arrested by prosecutors. The 'Naos' managed to safely berth at the Ã…hus Container Terminal on April 1 at 2:45 p.m. Meanwhile, the Coastguard has launched an investigation into the incident, with detention hearings scheduled before April 4. If found guilty, the captain could face a prison sentence of up to two years.
