Gastrointestinal Illnesses Strike 'Eurodam' and 'Nautica' Cruise Ships

Jan 08, 2025 12:35

In a concerning start to the year, gastrointestinal outbreaks have been reported on two cruise vessels, the 'Eurodam' and the 'Nautica'. The 'Eurodam', which accommodated 2,900 individuals including passengers and crew, experienced an outbreak of norovirus during its journey through the southern Caribbean. A total of 86 passengers, or approximately 4%, along with eight crew members contracted the virus. The ship successfully docked at Port Everglades on January 8, 2025, where it immediately initiated isolation procedures and conducted thorough cleaning measures to eradicate any traces of the virus. Meanwhile, the 'Nautica', serving just over 1,000 people, reported that 15 passengers and 16 crew members also exhibited symptoms consistent with the virus. In an effort to contain the situation, both cruise lines have actively adhered to established health protocols to minimize the risk of further transmission.

Search Underway for Overboard Passenger from Nautica off Turkey

Aug 29, 2022 11:52

On the night of August 28, 2022, a distressing incident occurred aboard the cruise ship 'Nautica', which was traveling from Valletta to Istanbul. A passenger went missing while the vessel was in transit. Following the unfortunate disappearance, 'Nautica' conducted several search patterns for hours in an effort to locate the individual. The ship arrived at the Port of Istanbul on August 29 at 4:55 a.m., where Turkish police authorities boarded to commence their investigation. The 'Nautica' had departed from Barcelona on August 15, making stops in Mahon, Monte Carlo, and Porto Torres before its arrival in Valletta on August 25. Efforts are ongoing to gather more information regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Severe Weather Disrupts Cruise Ship Operations at Port

Jan 23, 2020 09:28

On January 18, 2020, inclement weather conditions forced the port authority to halt all ship traffic, resulting in the delayed departures of two cruise ships, the 'MSC Orchestra' (IMO: 9320383) and the 'Artania' (IMO: 9103855). Gale force winds necessitated the deployment of tugboats to secure the vessels at their docking points. The 'Artania', which was scheduled to stop at Port Elizabeth, ultimately omitted this port of call due to the storm. Additionally, the voyage itinerary for the 'AIDAmira' was impacted as the ship was unable to navigate into Cape Town's port, while the 'Nautica' was also affected, missing its planned midday arrival. By January 20 at 9 a.m., the 'Artania' successfully departed for Durban, with an estimated time of arrival (ETA) set for January 22. Following closely behind, the 'MSC Orchestra' left just a short time later, also en route to Durban, expecting to arrive on January 24. The 'AIDAmira' eventually docked at 11:30 a.m., and shortly thereafter, the 'Nautica' arrived at the port.
