On the morning of September 9, 2017, a maritime incident occurred involving the vessels 'Meray' and 'Orhan' at the outer anchorage of Chittagong at approximately 7 a.m. The 'Meray', which was anchored at the time, was struck by the 'Orhan'. Carrying a significant load of 37,661 tons of TSP (triple superphosphate) fertilizer from Nowapara Traders, the 'Meray' sustained damage to its cargo hold 5, leading to water ingress. As a result, 4,000 tons of the fertilizer cargo were spoiled due to flooding that ensued from the breach. The 'Orhan', on the other hand, was entering Chittagong with a cargo of urea fertilizer. Fortunately, ship traffic in the area was not affected by this incident.
