Emergency Medical Evacuation at Hinkley Point

Apr 25, 2024 11:22

In the early hours of April 24, 2024, at precisely 12:28 a.m., the RNLI lifeboats from Burton-on-Trent and Barry Dock were mobilized to handle a medical emergency aboard the vessel 'Neptune'. A man on board was experiencing severe chest pains, prompting the involvement of the Coastguard helicopter, Rescue 187. The lifeboat named 'Doris Day and Brian' was swiftly deployed, navigating toward the exclusion zone of the Hinkley nuclear power station. Upon arrival, they coordinated with the Barry Dock lifeboat and the rescue helicopter. Prepared for any eventuality, the lifeboats were on standby for an alternative evacuation should the helicopter not be able to safely winch the casualty aboard the 'Neptune'. Fortunately, the patient was successfully airlifted to Southmead Hospital, leading to the RNLI teams being stood down as their assistance was no longer required.
