Successful Refloating of Vessel 'New Energy' Marks Salvage Triumph

Jan 16, 2024 10:13

On January 13, the salvage operation for the 'New Energy' reached a successful milestone as the vessel was refloated. Following this achievement, the ship was towed to Dung Quat Shipyard located in Quang Ngai, arriving at 12:25 p.m. UTC on January 15 for essential repair work. The salvage team undertook an impressive operation, removing approximately 6,000 cubic meters of sand to create a 30-meter wide and 300-meter long water channel. This thorough preparation allowed the vessel to be safely towed out to open sea within an estimated timeframe of four days.

Salvage Operations Underway for Stranded Cargo Ship 'New Energy'

Jan 10, 2024 10:50

On January 10, 2024, salvage efforts commenced for the cargo vessel 'New Energy', which remains stranded on a beach in Quang Ngai's Central Province. The Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority, working in conjunction with the Border Guard Command and local authorities from both Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces, have devised a strategic plan to refloat the ship. In a coordinated operation, representatives from the ship's ownership and the salvage company have mobilized heavy machinery to excavate sand and create sufficient clearance channels on either side of the hull, essential for towing the vessel back into open waters. The objective is to remove approximately 6,000 cubic meters of sand, potentially more, to establish a 30-meter wide and 300-meter long channel. The dredging work is expected to take around four days to complete. The stranded ship contains 27 tons of fuel oil; hence, the Central Oil Spill Response Center has been notified to prepare resources and equipment as a precautionary measure. The 'New Energy' encountered trouble on November 14, 2023, while transporting nearly 14,000 tons of iron ore from Cua Lo port in Nghe An to Dung Quat port. New Energy Grounds in Quang Nam's Tam Nghia Waters

Nov 19, 2023 16:35

On November 14, 2023, the cargo vessel 'New Energy' experienced a grounding incident off the coast of Tam Nghia, located in Quang Nam province, Vietnam. After successfully loading and unloading cargo at Dung Quat port, the ship encountered fierce winds and heavy waves that drove it into shallow waters. The crew lost the ability to maneuver the vessel, which drifted approximately 200 meters from the shoreline, ultimately coming to rest on the seabed. Currently, the crew is awaiting the return of high tide to attempt both refloating the ship and conducting towing operations to free it from its predicament.
