Ukrainian Ports Prepare for Grain Shipment as Five Bulk Carriers Set Sail
In a significant move to counteract the impact of the Russian blockade on its exports, five bulk carriersâ'Olga', 'Ida', 'Danny Boy', 'Forza Doria', and 'New Legacy'âare currently en route to Ukraine's Black Sea ports for loading. These vessels aim to transport a total of 120,000 tons of Ukrainian grain destined for Africa and Europe. They will be loaded at the major ports of the Odesa region, specifically in Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi. Navigating through a temporary maritime corridor established by the Ukrainian Navy, these ships are proceeding towards their loading destinations despite Russia's ominous threats against vessels following Moscow's withdrawal from the UN and Turkey-brokered grain agreement earlier this summer. In addition to this, Russian drone attacks have targeted alternative shipping routes via the Danube River. The urgency of these shipments is underscored by a drastic decrease in outbound grain exports, which plummeted to 1.75 million tons in September, a notable drop from 3 million tons in August. Meanwhile, three other bulk carriersâ'Azara', 'Ying Hao 01', and 'Eneida'ârecently departed from Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi, collectively carrying over 127,000 tons of agricultural products and iron ore on their journey southwest.
