In a heartbreaking accident on February 4, 2024, at 03:30 a.m., a Turkish pilot tragically fell from the pilot ladder into the waters of the Istanbul Strait near Sarayburnu Point. The incident occurred while he was aboard the vessel 'New Siham', which was making its way from Alger to Tuapse. In a brave response, the crew of the pilot boat quickly leaped into the sea to assist him and successfully recovered the pilot. Despite their efforts and subsequent transport to a nearby hospital emergency unit, the pilot succumbed to hypothermia. Fortunately, the pilot boat crew received medical attention for their own health concerns. Following the unfortunate event, the harbour master revoked the vessel's transit passage permission, leading it to anchor at Büyükdere.
