On June 19, 2026, the cargo vessel 'Niraikanai 2' faced an unexpected incident while on its voyage from Osaka to Tokyo. At around 3:40 a.m., the vessel, carrying 17 crew members along with a load of private vehicles and heavy machinery, ran aground on rocky terrain on the western side of Toshima Island, located in the Izu archipelago, at coordinates 34° 32' N 139° 16' E. Fortunately, all crew members reported safe with no injuries or oil leaks detected following the grounding. The incident occurred under the influence of southeastern winds measuring approximately 6 meters per second (21.6 kph) and a swell of 50 centimeters.
