Wintershall Exercises Extension for Maersk Drilling's Jackup Rig in Dutch North Sea

Sep 02, 2019 10:16

In a notable development, Wintershall Noordzee has exercised an option to extend the charter of the Maersk Drilling jackup rig, Maersk Resolve, for an additional well at the Sillimanite field, located in the Dutch North Sea. This extension is projected to last approximately 100 days, with operations set to commence in mid-2020, continuing the rig's current work scope that started in 2009. Maersk Resolve, known for its robust capabilities, continues to be a valuable asset in the region’s oil and gas exploration initiatives.

Evacuation at Esbjerg Port After 'Rotra Vente' Allides with Drilling Rigs

Apr 11, 2017 23:10

A significant evacuation event unfolded at the Esbjerg Port on April 10, 2017, when the heavy load carrier 'Rotra Vente' experienced an engine failure while departing the harbor. Amidst strong westerly winds and an inward tide, the vessel suffered a blackout, causing it to drift uncontrollably back towards the port. Despite attempts to anchor, the powerful winds redirected the ship towards two Maersk drilling rigs, 'Maersk Resolve' and 'Maersk Resolute', prompting the immediate evacuation of personnel aboard both platforms. The 'Rotra Vente' made contact with one of the rigs at low speed and became wedged against the helipad. Recognizing the urgency due to the rising tide, port authorities dispatched two tugboats and a pilot vessel to regain control of the drifting ship. Fortunately, while there was some minor damage, including the loss of a mast and antennas that got entangled with the platform, no major incidents occurred. To assist with the towing operation, ballast water was taken on in the stern of the 'Rotra Vente', increasing its draught. The vessel was ultimately pulled to the Aries Quay for inspection. The ship remained detained on April 11 while further assessments were carried out. Maersk Drilling, in cooperation with the Port of Esbjerg and relevant authorities, managed the situation effectively.

DONG Energy Cuts Contract with Maersk Resolve Ahead of Schedule

Sep 28, 2016 14:05

In a notable development, DONG Energy has officially notified Maersk Drilling of the early termination of the contract for the MAERSK RESOLVE. The decision follows the successful and timely completion of the planned work at the Hejre field, located in the Danish sector of the North Sea. The original agreement was set to run until January 2017; however, the jackup's efficient operations allowed DONG Energy to conclude the contract ahead of time. Under the terms of the early termination agreement, Maersk Drilling will incur no financial loss, as the compensation arrangement ensures they remain neutral to the original contract's financial implications.
