Environmental Control Reveals High Sulfur Diesel Fuel on Nomadic Hjellestad in Bremerhaven
On March 7, 2013, the 'Nomadic Hjellestad' arrived in Bremerhaven from Riga and was subjected to an environmental inspection by officials from the Water Police Inspectorate of Bremen. During the check, authorities detected an elevated sulfur content in the diesel fuel utilized for the vessel's auxiliary generators, measuring at just over 0.3%. This level exceeds the European Union regulation limit of 0.1%. While sulfur content of approximately 0.4% can still be acquired outside European waters, the findings led officials to note that the ship had no alternative fuel onboard and was thus required to refuel in Bremerhaven. Following the inspection, a violation was filed against the ship's captain for breaching Bremen port regulations, resulting in a security deposit of €1,100. After addressing this issue, the 'Nomadic Hjellestad' set sail from Bremerhaven, heading towards Las Palmas with an estimated time of arrival on March 13.
