The event occurred around noon, sending emergency alarms ringing throughout the vicinity. Fortunately, a fellow crew member acted swiftly, rescuing the individual who was equipped with a life vest from the chilly waters. Despite sustaining injuries after getting caught between the ferry and the dolphins of the port, the injured man remained conscious and aware. Emergency services quickly transported him via helicopter to a hospital in Flensburg for further treatment. On the morning of July 27, 2015, the Wittdün fire rescue team on the island of Amrum responded to an urgent situation when a truck pulling a trailer from the ferry 'Nordfriesland' was involved in an incident. At approximately 9:20 a.m., the truck driver discovered a malfunction in the vehicle, leading to a significant oil spill from the hydraulic system. This mishap resulted in contamination affecting extensive areas of the ferry landing. A dedicated team of 25 volunteer firefighters sprang into action, deploying oil binders to manage the spill. However, challenging weather conditions, including strong winds and rain, hindered their cleanup efforts. The team worked tirelessly for two and a half hours to contain and dispose of the leaked oil properly.
