On June 2, 2016, a dramatic maritime rescue unfolded in the North Sea when the offshore vessel 'REM Gambler' came to the aid of nine Polish sailors after their yacht, 'Miracle', was engulfed in flames due to an explosion onboard. The incident occurred at approximately 9:20 a.m., about 50 miles south-west of Shetland. As the crew of the 'Miracle' abandoned ship, they found themselves adrift in a life raft, helplessly watching their vessel being consumed by the raging fire. Fortunately, the 'REM Gambler' was just seven miles away when the distress call was received. The crew sprang into action, adjusting their course towards the burning yacht. Upon arrival, the crew of the 'REM Gambler' quickly located the sailors in the life raft, who were equipped with a radio. After an hour of coordinated efforts, the rescue ship successfully lifted the life raft aboard, bringing all nine sailors to safety. The 'REM Gambler' docked near Shetland by 6 p.m., where the rescued crew were met by the Scalloway harbor pilot boat, 'Lyrie', which facilitated their safe passage to shore. Upon arrival, they were greeted by a team of Coastguard and police officers, alongside members from the local Red Cross and Fishermen’s Mission, who were present to assess their well-being and gather details regarding the harrowing incident.
