Texas Seaman Files Lawsuit Over Injuries From Vessel Explosion

May 15, 2017 22:47

HOUSTON โ€” A seaman from Texas has launched a lawsuit against both his employer and a vessel owner, claiming their negligence resulted in a serious explosion that left him injured. On April 21, Mayo Culp Jr. initiated legal proceedings in Harris County District Court against Baker Hughes Process and Pipeline Services LLC, Saipem America Inc., and Saipem SPA. Culp asserts that these companies failed to provide him with a safe working environment. The incident in question occurred on February 21, while Culp was working over 7,000 feet underwater, when an explosion in the piping aboard the vessel Norman Maximus caused him severe injuries. The lawsuit details that Culp has experienced both physical and emotional distress, alongside loss of income and incurred medical costs. The complaint highlights the defendants' negligence in consistently inspecting, maintaining, and repairing the vessel's equipment, as well as their failure to ensure adequate training and supervision for staff members. Culp is seeking over $1 million in damages, maintenance and cure benefits, and a jury trial for what he describes as just and proper relief. He is represented by the experienced legal team of attorneys Kurt B. Arnold, Caj D. Boatright, Roland T. Christensen, and Alison Baimbridge from Arnold & Itkin LLP based in Houston.
